The ladder from the salon to the bridge really intrigues me on the Mariner. It looks like a really cool feature. In real life how functional is it?

We just used it to pass food up to the bridge - but that was actually pretty handy.

LOVE it!! We have a '99 350 Mariner. It's especially great in the winter/rainy season when we have the full enclosure on. With no external 110V plugs on the boat I use the hatch to run the cord for the little/portable heater that I use on the bridge in the winter. It gets it nice and TOASTY! Even in the 30's I can boat comfortably with shorts, t-shirt and a light jacket. The heat is a $20-30 unit from Wal-Mart, auto-shut-off if it tips AND the best part is that it doesn't get hot enough to do skin/vinyl damage...I've tested it, trust me!

Tom / Brad,
Thanks for the feedback, while I'm not looking to upgrade, I have been curious!

Yeah I always wondered about that hatch too... Looks easy to fall down from the bridge, but still, the idea of climbing up a ladder from inside the boat appeals to the amateur-famous-Naval-Commander inside me. (I coulda made Nimitz seem like an amateur - really ;) )...

Seriously, I think the ladder is fun, and the people I've met who have those boats love them, so there must be something to it...

I agree with all of the reasons stated by Captain Buddah!!

I actually removed it. We have complete canvas, so using it in inclement weather to avoid going out on the deck wasn't an issue. It's pretty narrow and a steep angle if you're not a small person. We still pass things thru the hatch, but removing the ladder gives us bit more space in the cabin.

Just throwing this out there, I'm on the "larger" side of life, as in 6' and 300 pounds, my big ole carcass has no issues transiting the ladder/hatch.

At first I was dubious, but now we use it all the time. Both to pass things up and down, and as an easy passage in inclement weather.

Often when underway, the first mate uses it rather than climbing down the back stairs.

She feels it is safer and more comfortable.

A great feature on a feature packed boat.

Pete,
You hit it on the head, reaching the bridge from belowdecks via a ladder, how much more nostaglic nautical can you get
