I am restoring a 73 welcraft cc. I have an 85 90 hp evinrude that was rebuilt and on it when I got it. It did not have trim and tilt.
The wiring was a rats nest and I gutted it.
I am at the point of reinstall. 2 main questions so far.
Easy one first. Off the ignition is a three wires, grey, purple, (red or black). I already forgot since coming inside! Which one goes where? (I know where the hot ground goes).
The second is harder, maybe not. I bought a working trim unit to install. The wiring off the control is maybe 4 feet. It's maybe a foot of the trim/tilt unit. It looks to be about 18 or 16 gauge off the control, yet maybe 12, 10 or even 8 off the tilt unit. The question is, if I have the batteries in the console, what do I run to the tilt unit? Why are they so different in gauge?
