I put this up once before. In a different application, but I think it needs the attention of a EE to make it work. This should be the place!
My idea was to use a "Voltage sensing circuit" to moniter the decreasing voltage in the "housekeeping" battery. (Anchor lights, Fridge, etc etc)
When the Voltage dropped down to an unsafe level, the "sensor" would energize the starting circuit of the Charging engine. Causing it to start up.
This engine would be connected to an alternator (such as a Automobile ALternator with it's own Regulator)
The "housekeeping" battery would be recharged after awhile and the "Sensor" would shut the Charging engine down.
I'm just too old and lazy to look all that stuff up, but I think it's all available in some kinds of hardware stores.
My first Idea was using a Weed eater engine attatched to a little Alternator off a Riding lawn mower!
Aside from all the obvious discomforts such as awaking you out of a sound sleep, or worse yet, waking up the guy rafted up next to you!
He might revoke your Martini privileges.
I think it's do-able. My original Idea was to recharge the Batteries running my little Jon boat around the lake fishing. I wouldn't need to have the Gas engine on the boat at all.
All those remarks about the poor Anchor lights on the Night Lake boating accident brought this back to my mind. With something like this we could have more lights on board.
Even an early warning system with a sensor that watched for oncoming crafts.
