The grounding is a-shame but something good came from it...a new to me website with unlimited scrolling of boat porn! Thanks Bill
 
Looks like the swimming pigs were still hanging out on the beach not too concerned :-)
 
The pigs must have been thrilled to see a large yacht with gourmet galley and chef coming their way instead of the dinghies they are used to:)

We came back to SCYC yesterday and didn't see it on the beach so they must have gotten it off

That s one accident that's hard to understand as the holding there is excellent and these larger biats usually anchor further from the beach. Furthermore the wind wasn't bad in the past few days. We were here last week and headed to nassau for a couple days but at most it was 20kts. And even if it had been a little more locally, in addition to the anchor alarm then they should have had someone in the pilot house. Usually over 20kts blowing to a shoreline I sleep on the couch in the skylounge with the alarm on the furuno in addition to my iPad.

I ll try to pick up some information today... Maybe the crew was at the bar when it happened :)
 
Those Poole anchors are not the greatest at digging in and biting in a Bahamas type of bottom. Plus Broward is well known for under sizing their ground tackle.

My thoughts were if not at the bar, the results of being there earlier. :-)

Wow.... Great way to build a rep! Sell multi million dollar boats and skimp on the important stuff.

Maybe they compensate with more drink holders?
 
I was jsut told that when the front passed thru over the week end winds were higher than expected with peak gusts up to 45. Still no excuse to wake up on the beach unless they had some mechanical issues with the mains.

Well Broward was kind of the Chevy of bigger boat. And they built over 200+ boats over the decades.

But they have also been out of the boat building business for a while now.

If they anchored to close they may have had to drag only a little to swing right up on they beach.

Where is your "here"? :). In Nassau we got a couple of lighting bangs and 20kts...

Boats that size rarely anchor close to the beach any way and usually there are a number of smaller boats, us included, between them and piggys :) I wonder if , maybe, they got their props tangled up in somebody's rode.
 
We had heard from someone down there now that they clocked 50+ ka-nots. Consumate F-up. We always add to the wind projections. I wonder if Staniel Cay Yacht Club kicked everyone out?
There is quite a fetch to the West of Big Majors...

And while most don't, I've seen some big boats in pretty close from time to time.
 
True it s pretty deep all the way. Usually there are too many candian sailboats in the way though, esp at this time of the year :)
 
True. Interestingly you don't see to many boats in the background of those shots. But then maybe they got taken out as the Broward dragged. :-)
 
Usually whenever a front comes thru most smaller boats leave the main big majors anchorage and go tuck in behind.

There are two big holes in the hard sand where the boat was beached which were not there last week!
