Well, kind of. Oil analysis back by email last night, antifreeze in the port engine, lots of it. High Sodium count, high Iron count high Chromium count and a high Silicon count. Starboard engine is OK on sodium but high on silicon and iron, otherwise everything is within normal limits.

The good news, these are Jasper Long Blocks still under warrantly. The bad news is Jasper only pays $52hr for labor, local shop is $95hr. Local service shop slammed with winterizations, hopes to have time the first of the year to look at her.

On both engines the report states "possibly due to lingering wear in" for the high iron and chrome counts. 80 hours on them, I would think they are broken in by now.

Update: We have a defective exhaust manifold. Mechanic found antifreeze in the manifold and it also fails a pressure test, but only when hot.

U want the bad news now ?? U have to replace all of them. Not just the one that failed. Replace all 4. otherwise its just going to keep happening .... and the damage that can be done is way more then the cost of prevention....

Sorry...

Rob

The heat makes everything expand so it's no wonder that it shows up more readily when hot. Sorry for your misfortune but as advised.....I would replace all 4 also.

Replaced when the engines were replaced, 09/2005. They have approximately 80 hours on them though we noticed symptons at hour 10, when our FWC kits were installed (loosing antifreeze immediately after the kit install).

They probably reused all ur old stuff.... or someone elses.... Ive seen that...
Also Jasper warrty sucks... there labor rate is like 75.... where the heck u finding that ?? Everyone around in the hundreds... that money u have to cover.... Keep usposted how they handle it

Rob

That's a good question. Were these long or short blocks. If short, they aren't new manifolds, right?

Remaned Jasper Long Blocks, new GLM exhaust manifolds.

I am not following the need to replace all of them if one is bad. They were all new and replaced at the same time. If one of the two engines goes bad, do I replace the other one too? No, so why do this with the exhaust manifolds?

Somehow we missed the part about them being replaced at rebuild... I see the post now but i guess i missed it. Did u find out how jasper is going to reimburse u ?

Rob

Japser will reimburse $54 an hour for labor (not sure if this is regional specific or not), up to 16 hours an engine. It's my understanding they pay 100% for parts.

We have not seen a bill from the shop yet as they are still doing some repairs. It's my understanding the shop will bill Jasper and us seperately.

Thats correct...

wow 54 an hr... How do they get away with that ....

ITs bloody wrong... u shouldnt have to pay a dime...

How did u end up with a Jasper rebuild to begin with ?

Rob

The boat came with them when we purchased her. They had 1 hour each, literally. We saw the boat when they were being installed and purchased the boat after they were installed.

The engines are strong and run well. It's everything attached to them that has been an issue for us.

Friends boat blew a motor. Jasper was the replacment ( i think the insurance company steered it that way . It wasway cheap ) anyway the new ( rebuilt motor ) failed under warrty. Motor had to be sent back to jasper... So during boating season.. boats on the hard while this motor goes back forth... bad very bad.... then the whos paying.... Im my opinion u and them shouldnt have to pay a dime. reality is they had to pay ALOT .... i dont remember exact details but it was alot.. they fought over the rigging ... just stupid.... there warrty'd motor failed they ( jasper ) Should fix it at no charge to the customer .. NOPE I wrong ... Well hope they go easy on yea....

Rob

After another trip back to the shop it turned out to be a bad exhaust manifold, covered under warranty.

BTW, Jasper covered everything, including the initial head gasket replacement, 100%, no bill for man hours, no bill for parts.
