OK, Well we finally did it. We closed on our new boat Oct 3rd. We picked her up on my birthday Oct 6th, And what a Birthday present it was. The captain brought her down from the Thousand Islands and arrived in Albany Saturday. Ilene, myself and the kids drove our 1988 Carver Montego up to Albany were we then switched boats. I am sad to see my old boat go, however it will be going to a good home for now. I have to say the new Trojan is massive. The beam really makes this boat, plus many other features.

Here are the stats.

2001 Trojan 440 Express 15ft beam 32,000lbs
Overall Legnth 48.5 feet
Twin Volvo 480's with 275 hours
10kw Kohler GenSet with Yanmar engine.220hrs
Full Digital digital display at the helm.
Maxwell windlass with 200 ft chain. Washdown for the Anchor.
Three statrooms, two heads, 2 Marine Air AC/Heat units
Raymarine and Furuno GPS Raydar/Chartplotter
Simrad Autopilot
Harmon Hardon 5.1 digital surround sound.
25 inch tv in saloon and 13 inch in master
Garage for a jet ski, Need to purchase a davit for that.

Congrats on the 440 Trojan. I'ts always been my favorite express boat in it's size class. As you stated, the boat is MASSIVE, but handles very well during docking maneuvers. I had one out on Lake Erie in 6+ footers, and she barely raised her bow to them.

What a sweet looking boat.... very nice Bob...

Charlevoix, Michigan is a beautiful area.. Did you make the trip there to look at her prior to purchase or was she in a closer port?

I imagine it would have been a nice trip to have brought her all the way down... if you only had the time?? :)

Good luck with her.. she's a beauty..

I hear those boats can do about 40MPH and have a great little gararge too. Good luck with her.

Thanks everyone for your comments. The boat was originally located in Michigan then the owner took her to Florida. While there, he had the Radar Arch modified for trucking. His intension was to transport it to and from Florida. However after seeing the price it was not economical. So they purchased another boat for Michigan.

The boat was built in 2001 but commissioned on 11/18/03. The original owner was looking for a Sedan Bridge. He and his wife loved the boat. The only reason they traded her in was due to lobster and crab pots in Florida. He was looking to have a better vantage point at the helm. We found out this information later. After you read below it makes sense.

So now for the WIERDEST part of this story. We arrived at the Albany Yacht Club on Saturday for my Birthday. Checked in, had a drink and was talking to the Dock Master. She said she received a call from Francy Free. (the name of the boat). She said, yes we have your reservation. The owner said, we didn’t make reservations, she said we know the other person in your party (Me, Starry Night did); the owner said we do not know any Starry Night. So basically the Dock Master said ok we will se you when you get here. Now, the dock master tells me that Francy Free is on their way in. I said, no that is not possible I just talk to Ron, the Captain and he is stuck at Lock 8 and will not make it till Sunday. So now we are scratching our heads and the day move on. I went to the registry office to sign in and I see Francy Free signed in. So I am now looking for the boat around the dock. I do not see it, so I asked the Dock Master, she said right over there. I said wow there are two Francy Frees. What are the chances of that? So I walk down to the boat, which is a 56 Sea Ray Sedan Bridge, and look for the owner. I finally see a woman walking down the dock. I ask her, did you own a 2001 Trojan 440 Express. Well, she said yes… why do you ask… and how did you know… so I tell her I just bought your boat… Her name is Francy. She said no way.. I said yes… and it will be here tomorrow. So the short of the story is they were heading to Florida from Michigan with their new boat, but had an engine problem, so they stopped at Albany Yacht Club.. So what are the chances of this happening… 1,000,000 to 1. So we started talking, and Dave the original owner of the Trojan told be all about the boat.. So now I am the second owner of the Trojan..

The Trojan 44 express is a incredible boat regardless of how it’s powered
With the Cummins QSM 11’s it will do over 42MPH and cruise at close to 40MPH!
If I were to go back to an express it would be #1 on my list!

I look at one with QSM 11's with 635 hp. It was not in the greatest shape. The information I got from Carver was that with QSM 11's the boat cruises at 35 and topped at 38. The burn rate was 48-50 and 54-60 an hour if I am not mistaken. I would have love that speed but forget the burn rate.

Bob, the one you saw with the 635 Hp was it at Lincoln Harbor? If yes, I looked at it too. Too bad it was not well kept. I'm condiering going smaller?

I am in love with this boat! I just looked at a few on boattrader. I am adding this one to my top 5 list of possible next boat purchases. Thanks for posting

Capt Art,
Yes, I did look at the one in Lincoln Harbor, NY. It did need work. When you look at the small things that are issues, you know the big things will bite you.

As a Trojan 360Express owner, if you have more pics of the interior I'd love to have a look :)

A hack?

I certainly don't take everything he says as gospel but I don't think he qualifies as a hack. Not to put words in Starry Night's mouth but I had a conversation with him last year about Pascoe's article and he indicated that the article helped make the boat better since the manufacturer listened and made improvements.

To The Max,
Here are some pictures of the interior. It is has 3 sleeping quarters and 2 heads. The last picture was my Carver Montego and the new Trojan the day we pick it up.

To The Max,

What Rommer stated is true, this was the conversation I had with Carver and their technician who worked on the boat. Carver made several updates and upgrade to the boat. It like anything else, you start with the first model role out, in this case 1996 Trojan, and add or correct issues found. My boat is a 2001. This year will be my shake out of the boat. So far all I can say is that is has a comfortable ride with a 15' beam, It seam to be rock solid so far. I love the layout and design. The hull was made by Hatteras for Carver when they purchased them in 1998.
I read Pascoe's article years before I wanted the boat. His report was on a 1996. This was the first year it came out and owned by Trojan.
I also read the other article on the Trojan. Some thing are of course different on my boat, I have volvo 480's with the newer ZF transmissions, not the ones in the 1996 article. I think the fit and finish is much better now, down below, but this is my personal observation. The hull and deck is put together better as well. The wiring is all coded and neat and clean. They have boxed in the vents to prevent water from coming in. if that ever happend.

Do you like your 36? Do you have good points and bad point with your boat?

Just for your knowledge. Carver completed the purchase of Trojan in 1992. Any trojan after that is a Carver. Also...Hatteras made the 440 for the first 2 model years, and was moved to Carver's Pulaski, WI location for the 1998 model year. The 1996 and 97 440s were probably the worst boats ever put out by Carver from a warranty visit standpoint. They went from our most troublesome boat in 1997 to one of the most trouble free in 1998. I think there's a reason that Genmar sold Hatteras to Brunswick
