I overheated yesterday. Engine clicked under load and temp jumped up. I lost some RPM's (3300 to 3000) before I throttled down. I haev a RWC twin 4.3L with alphas. This is my port engine which is about 4 years old (rebuilt) manifolds and risers were changed this spring.;
Also in my case, I'm having trouble keeping my alternatorwater circulating belt tight. The alternator bracket is not loosening, but I now have an inch of slack on it. I had a little less than 1/2" yesterday when I tightened. it.
Question time:
1. What casues the clicking sound when I overheated? It happened twice today, the second time I think my rubber elbows were getting hot as I smelt a little burning rubber smell.
2. What are the possible casues?? INtakes were not clogged, but I could have grabbed some crap somewhere, I was not in shallow water at all this weekend but there is always some seaweed here and there.
3. Could the circulating pump be part of the problem How can I tell?
Now when I run the engine at idle, it keeps the temperature pretty low. Is there any risk running the engine in trawler mode?
I haven't been back to the boat to do mroe investigation, but the risers were cool to the touch when I ran the engine for 15 minutes or so at the dock.
Thanks,
