Do any of you think about security when you're asleep on the hook? Alarms? Personal Protection? etc?

We're often in raft-ups with friends so we don't think about it too of, but what about those who are far out achored near an island or a remote cove, etc? Do you lock your cabin door for instance?

Paul

doors locked and Mr. .357 with us to greet unwelcomed vistors. One thing my wife loves is that our boat has a remote we keep in the salon that allows us to turn the cockpit lights on from inside without opening the door. Never had an issue though.

light sleeper, large me, bad attitude...Bowie and Bat handy.

Note to self: Do not surprise Boatered RO's on the water at night...

Maxwell - that's why yer Smart! We just lock the hatch and have cell phones/hand held VHS handy. Most places where we drop the hook, the neighbors worry more about us than we about them...

In all my years of boating on Lake Huron's North Channel or the waters of Geogian Bay there has never been the need for any firearms or other security devices on my boat. I have never encountered or even heard of any security problems in the north country.

I feel safer out at anchor then at a marina dock! But I still don't lock the cabin door. I'm more concerned about escaping in case of fire or such! I do keep protection onboard though.

I've got a "Wrist Rocket" that'll take the eye out of a snake at 20 paces! I'm sure it'll make just as good an impression on a boat burgler! The lil' wrist rocket can split a 2x4 at 10 paces. A little slower to load than a hand gun but with a pocket full of ball bearings you'll never run out of ammo!

We have perco hook eyes on the doors Liz. Easy open, fair security.

No Mossberg for you i see!!

That's a good gun you've got there- should handle the job!

After a good Bar-B-Q in the North Channel, I felt more comfortable with a Radio Shack battery operated motion detector/alarm - it was not for human invaders - it was for the bear!

When in U.S. waters it is a GLOCK 9mm.

I too have a couple of thos RS motion detecting alarms. When I'm at a dock which seems uncomfortable for me, I'll set those up. One where one would enter the boat and another where one would enter the cabin. Fortunately, I've been the only one to set one off!
