I am a newbie I know nothing have yet to sail. I just bought a salvaged Islader, I took apart the packing gland and surprise water came into the boat, after the sudden panic I screwed it back on and it leaked badly so I sent my buddy to get some teflon tape and pipe dope I stopped the water from coming in but now I need to fix it.
I have learned that I need shaft packing the stuff I consisdered junk twine, How do I determine the diameter I need ? and how do I thread that shaft packing into the gland. A 101 on shaft packing and the packing gland as Step by step would help. Thanks
