This should be NBR but feel all should know.

I received a charge of $50 for PayPal support with the telephone number of 402-935-7733 associated with it. The charge was for sporting goods. I haven't used paypal in years and the account I associated with it closed years ago. The charge is a fraud.

I googled the phone number. The fraud appears to go back to 2013 and the numbers varie from a few bucks to several thousands. The brand of credit card does not matter. Visa, MC, AMEX were all mentioned in my search.

Just wanted my boating buddies to know.

David, thanks I recently closed my PayPal account after having it since almost it's launch.
I'll keep a watch on it even though it's closed.

Pay Pal twice took out $49 from my bank account. This was before I even knew what Pay Pal was. My bank refunded the money to me. Later I found out the bank doesn't even investigate 'incidents' under $50.
 
Yikes! I've used paypal in the past to pay for my BE anchor.
 
I've used paypal for years and never a problem.
When shopping online it's always been pretty handy, but with all financials it's best to keep a close eye on your accounts.
 
Never had a problem with PayPal but I don't keep money in it and it is not linked to a bank account. It is linked to a credit card that I watch closely.

I did not understand the part of your post where you mention past charges in 2013. Were these charges to your account. Did you pay them. etc.

If the Paypal account was closed, was it for fraudulent charges on your credit card listed as Paypal support?
 
I use Pay Pal for everything. I do a lot of transactions on Ebay, Pay Pal makes it easy. Never had a problem
 
PAY pal tied to my American Express, keeps it away from my bank accounts.
 
I have my Pay Pal account linked to a specific credit card that I use STRICTLY for that purpose............and it has a $500 credit limit. Cuts down on my liability if it gets hacked.

I was not clear. Sorry. I closed my PayPal account years ago and the credit card that went with it.

The charge was for sporting goods at a store in Nebraska. The charge read Paypal Support.
