So how many people are going to think that is a no wake buoy and go to the starboard side coming in? Not sure how that helps the uninformed at all.
 
I'm assuming it was the sheriff same as who install the last floats they appeared just before July 4 as well. However I agree with Rommer this very unclear and there is nothing indicating which side to stay away of the hazard! This could make it worse.
 
The last time I was in there a buoy like that was on shore under the trees on the south side. Maybe that's it. At Lake George a hazard like the rock pile would be surrounded with buoys. There should be two more around it. At least we have something and the rock pile is on the chart.
 
It does look very similar to that one that was in the trees except I think that one had writing on it that said no boats or something. This one just has a cross on it.
 
I told my guests for tomorrow that there are two shows one where we watch fire works and one where we watch boats on the rocks! With this marker I think the second show will be greater, terrible!
 
TGIT This week Tuesday is my Friday with a little lot I will be done with work by 2pm and I should have the rest of the week off! I really hope the weather cooperates the rest of the week, this rain has been crazy and out of control.

I think the buoy on shore was the one that goes by the dock. As far as the one that is by the rock pile it was an effort. One I wish was never made but it seems a lot feel it was needed. How many of us go out and drive our car without knowing where we are going. If we don't know the area we get out our maps, gps or get local knowledge. If we get lost its our fault, no one else. The same logic applies to boating. If you want to come in, check your charts, gps or get local knowledge. You hit the rocks after that its your fault, no one else. I think the only other option left is to put a traffic cop on it to direct traffic away from it. ;)
 
Butch it's hard to compare driving a car and getting lost to knowingly letting people run aground with the hope that less people will come it the anchorage. I enjoy the peace and quite (except for the Gennys) but I kills me to see so many people hit the wall when it could so easily be avoided simply by marking the wall. The half attempt that was made may very well make things worse!
 
Dave, please tell me the name of ONE person who has "knowingly let people run aground"

It is the captain's responsibility to be familiar with the waters where he/she is boating. That means not entering unmarked areas without studying the charts and/or asking for local knowledge.

The A-holes who come blasting through at full speed get what they deserve.
 
We had one A hole like that in the marina today, was fueling the boat with Marian and this guys comes out with his jet ski at 10-15 miles well with in the marina the fuel guy waved to him and yelled for him to slow down, little did we know that guys runs his jet ski to the dock and threat to hit the file dock boy, both my self and Marian stopped him and yelled at him and the moron backed off but boy what a dirty mouth... This would have ended very differently if we were not there. The file dock boy was excellent in responding and keep his cool. This kind of crowed can hit the rocks at any time by my book.
 
It seems like some of us are going to miss the fireworks. I hope we can see something in Huntington, my kids are bummed.
 
Allen there are fireworks in Nanuet tomorrow night if you want to go.

Hogan I'm not accusing any individual of knowingly letting people hit the rocks! It's the mindset that if someone were to mark the hazard that more people will come and ruin the place that I have at issue with. While I agree that a captain has the responsibility of making sure he/she stays in safe water however sometimes this is a hard to do and or know how to do if locals refuse to mark harbors or coves. To me it just seems silly that the known hazard that so many have had issues with in the past has not been marked to prevent future problems, but this is just my opinion.
 
But it is marked and really has been all along. Just wondering, how many of you take trips to block and montauk without checking your charts. There Are a lot of obstacles out there as well. Do you hit them. As Hogan has said, its your responsibility to know the area you are entering. This wall is no different. As so many have asked, it is now marked with a buoy. And just for the record, I have yelled at more than one boater advising them of the wall. in fact I have helped several off the wall as well. now that I reread the post I hope I am not being accused of letting people run aground because I don't want them in there. As I just said I do attempt to warn people but the fact still goes, if you don't have the knowledge and have not checked the area out by charts, locals or gps you have no business being there. If you are dumb enough to attempt this you deserve to run aground. And just for the record, I have replaced some of the markers that have been there.
 
Why do some people always feel it some one else's problem and they should be protect by others? Personal responsibility is even more important in boating. If you can't read a chart and ask before you go then it's your own damn fault.

Let's leave the nanny state with Bloomberg and his whinny crap.

The charts don't do a good job showing the hazards and while no one here is responsible nor do I blame anyone here for anyone hitting the wall!!!!! I think the town should mark the inlet to prevent future problems I simply think it's the right thing to do. This new marker is ambiguous at best, it states there is danger but doesn't make it clear which side is the safe passage.

The chart only shows the obstruction at the outer entry which is where the old pilings are I don't see anything depicting the wall. So they can wait until someone get seriously hurt and then react or they could be proactive and throw out a few markers and prevent an issue.

"Why do some people always feel it some one else's problem and they should be protect by others?" I'm not asking someone to protect me I know the way in I'm concerned for others but that just the way I am. Heck why bother marking any hazards being they are on the chart it should all be on us.
 
Looking at my chart plotter, Garmin 2006, Bowline is a restricted area. I guess we don't belong in there. I also just realized I need to update my chip. It last updated in 06, ouch...

Is that oval showing the pilings or is it indicating that there are obstructions on the starboard side. It looks like the oval covers the entire starboard side of the entrance.

But me being a boater looking at your chart and seeing that marker would tell me to go to the port side of it. Common sense shows some sort of obstruction along the shore line and seeing the marker should give a clear warning. If I don't get the message from that I don't belong on the river!
