Pennsylvania crap a-comin

We tried motoring down to Annapolis on Saturday. The Patapsco was a minefield of debris, and I'm talking BIG logs. Once we got out to the Bay, it didn't seem to let up and the skies looked threatening, so we turned around. Can't say for certain if the crap continued, but just getting out there was bad enough. Not half as fun driving, but we made do.

On our way back, the Coast Guard was issuing a Pan Pan for a half submerged unmanned paddle boat at the mouth of the Chester River. Crikey!

Anyone have any up to date reports on the debris in the upper bay? Our yacht club is going to the Fells point festival on the 30th. We have to cross the bay from Kent Island up to Balt.
Some people are saying they dont want to go and we have almost 2 weeks before we leave. I would like to give them a good report so if you have news let me know!

I was also wondering the status of debris in the bay. My boat club is heading to Annapolis this weekend.

I was out over the weekend between C&D and Turkey point. Only minimal amount of 'stuff' in the water but some of it was large.

Was out today in the C&D and still quite a bit of debris, but at 16 knts you can see it and go around it.

We live at Thomas Point, and due to several higher than normal tides, alot of stuff has been washed into the wetlands or ashore. I think a slow passage wold be OK, but I wouldn't be checking my WOT for another week or so.

All the boats in my club run on the slow side so I guess we will be ok heading to Annapolis. I will just have to keep a sharp look-out. The junk that is partially submerged is my concern.

Well, this past Friday late afternoon we were headed from Kent Narrows to Fells point running at about 31 mph when we were about 2 miles from the Key Bridge. We started noticing allot of dibris at the head of the Potapsco and slowed down to about 23 mph. 2 of us were watching very closely for debris when I hit a large log that must have been just under the surface. I watched it pop up in my wake and started having allot of vibration. I then pulled her way back to idle and checked each motor for vibration. Sure enough it got my port side. We limped into Fells point where we met up with Our fellow KIYC members and stayed the weekend. On Sunday I limped home and had the boat pulled on Monday. I guess we were lucky because it only damaged the props. This is one situation where IPS probably caused the issue with the props facing forward. We are getting all 4 done and will be good to go for this weekend. I will be staying away from Bmore

Has anyone been on the North East River in the past few days? What's the debris situation?

Thanks!

We went to Knapps this past weekend and got the same vibration. Must have lodged above my shaft and hull, and lost the problem coming home. Stayed an additional day due to wind and seas, and glad we did. Calm water coming home, and debris must have blown away.
