I have a one year old Regal. Just took her out of storage and she still looks like the day I bought it. Last season I waxed it twice. Once at the beginning of the season and once in mid July. Do I need to polish her before I wax her this season or can I just apply another coat of wax this year? Thanks for any advice.

No need to polish, she is gleaming right?

Wax on, wax off.

Go boating.

My spring routine has always been to polish and then wax - I've always used terry cloth to polish - would a foam pad make a difference?

Boat is a 1998 Wellcraft Eclipse - I store it in a boatel from November to April, wetslip the remainder of the year. Gelcoat still looks great...

Thanks

So Mike, you're a fan of foam pads? I was disappointed with my results when I first started using them, so I performed some experiments and haven't used them since. I had noticed when doing some touch up with my PC 7424 on an otherwise "perfect" surface, that the foam pad was reducing the shine. I blamed the orbital action and started a thread on it. Then I used 3M's black "egg-create" finishing foam (again with Finesse It II) on a rotary, at about 1,700 RPM and got the same results. I swapped to the softest wool pad I could find, a few drops of Finesse It and I was back to the mirror finish.

My neighbor and I share pads and machines and have over $75 in foam pads that aren't getting used by either of us. How do you incorporate foam into your routine?

I'm with SLW on this one. Last year I tried the 3-M pads as mentioned with my Makita rotary and Finesse-IT. The pads kept chattering and bouncing back on me. I couldn't seem to get the pads to rotate smoothly. When I went back to my faithful yellow wool, all was good. What's the trick to using them?

Yellow wool pads from Boatfix are great. I use the one with hook and loop (velcro) backing, it has never let me down. That and some Aquabuff compound and the boat comes out like new!
