If bad luck was given a name, it'd be LANCE.

I'm reasonably certain at this point, that I have a cracked block on my 4.3l merc.

Long story short, I missed a drain plug before winter.

The only 'possible' hope, and this is pretty bad, is we were out of town for a few weeks this winter and we had about a foot of rain, caving in the cover and filling the boat with water. Not realizing this until we arrived home, the engine compartment on this boat was about 1/2 full of water, at sat there for a WHILE. I know, bad. The battery was not on, so the auto-bilge pump didn't kick in and as luck would have it, the dang drain plug was still in.

Sometimes I think I should have never bought a boat.

Anyway, the weater has been unseasonably warm, so I decided to clean her up and get her ready for the season.

Charged the battery... busted right off and purred like a kitten.

Oil change time.

Milkshake... some major water in the oil.

Ran another oil change through it, same thing.

I assume the only possible hope in this is that I've just not got all the water out of it from being submerged for a few weeks this winter. Although I'm not sure how it would have leaked in.

I'm going to be running a few more rounds of oil through it tomorrow but I'm already thinking... new engine.

Question is, where can I find just a replacement block. I have the resources (not me) to hae the engine rebuilt for a low cost by professionals, but I'll have to provide a block.

Any advice on what I'm looking at here?

Cheers,
-L
