I think I may a have only a starter problem but I want to be sure that all it is. 3.0 merc started fine all year so far, this last time I turned the key and it kept turning over after the engine was running and after I turned the key off. I had to disconnect the battery cable to get it to stop. Now when I turn the key the starter spins without turning over the engine, leading me to believe the starter needs replaced. Is my thought correct, or is there another potential issue I need to look into?
