This may have been addressed in this forum before, but I haven't figured out if (or how) you can search old topics so I'm asking anew.
I recently bought an old (1984) 19' Open Bow BR with a 4 cylinder, 3.7 liter, 170 HP Mercruiser I/O. Got it from a friend at a great price and it's been very well maintained in incredible mechanical condition.
We're primarily using it for skiing and tubing and I think it could get better power out of the hole with a different prop... but I don't have a good understanding of what to look for. A brief education would really help.
What is a standard prop pitch for this motor and what are my options? I know on an outboard if you put on a prop for more power you have to watch RPM's on the top end so as not to blow the engine... is the same thing true for an I/O? Are there 4-blade props available for this engine and a real advantage? What are the advantages / disadvantages of a Stainless Steel prop and is it worth the extra money for my purposes?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks
