I have signs of water in my lower gearcase (milky gear oil). I have seen gear oil leaking from the prop shaft area. I called marina and they tell me water can also get into lower gearcase through the exhaust and also
shaft seal. I did not realize there were other ways for water to get in. I don't want to overlook these others but was wondering how
likely these other items are as compared to the shaft seal being the source of the problem.
I'll probably take it in rather than try it at home but was just curious what most often allows water into lower gearcase on an outboard,
it's a 1996 48hp Evinrude, thanks for any comments.
