Proposal to cut funding for most state parks?

Squatters have always been around and there isn't much you can do about them, they just look for opportunities. Heck this may sound a bit off base but squatters and prostitution have a bit in common. They both are performing illegal acts and both will always be around regardless of laws.

We recently found out that a home for sale in our neighborhood had squatters in it. They had broken into a storage shed which was converted into living space and had been in there for about a week before neighbors figured out what was going on.

I doubt there will be many low life squatters in parks since they are not close to food or services where squatters can panhandle. The squatters that the parks may attract could be travelers looking to duck in for a night stay without paying a fee and likely have transportation & money but litter could still be a problem.

As an RV'er I have a problem with paying a $20+ fee to park overnight when traveling from point A to B and I just want to stop and get some peaceful rest. They don't offer hook-ups and I have my own restroom and feel it's price gouging when I can do the same thing at a roadside rest area or a Walmart parking lot for free. If your going to stay at a park for more than rest overnight the fee's are fine. I like Flutterby's idea about automated entrances. If you are in the park longer than 8 hours after darkness you pay a higher fee when the machine takes your ticket when leaving. Day use could do similar things and there would be no need for a paid ranger attendant.

Brannan Island has the best launching ramp in the Delta. That would really hurt the boating community as so many people use it. It won't help the Outrigger's chances of ever opening either.

And yes, it will also mean that Frank's Tract will be the new Mayberry Slough. Especially with the increased number of squatters that are likely to flood the Delta due to loss of jobs and homes.
 
The Outrigger has been open for about 3 weeks now. They are open same hours and days as last year.
 
Is the Outrigger under new management or is it the same guy as last year?
 
I'm curious. How much of CA economic woes are due to illegal immigration?
 
There are many politically active [ie, vocal] folks on Bethel Island that squatters will not be able to hang out on Franks Tract for long. "Mayberry" type squatters won't stand a chance. And any squatters at Lundberg's Landing will find that won't work either. BI residents are determined to NOT let a new settlement of druggies take over like they did after Delta Resort [which Lundberg purchased out of bankruptcy]. IMHO

They are a heavy burden on our health care, school and police systems statewide. But Arizona and Texas also have that problem. Are they broke too?

What are their hours? I went by there earlier this week and they weren't open.
 
I think it is Thursday through Sunday. Kareoke on Sat and Sunday. 8 to 8 but don't shoot me if I am wrong.

Another problem presented by the squatters often overlooked is that they have no running water or electricity and therefor dump raw sewage straight into The Delta. So the next time you decide to jump into the water to cool off around Lundberg's, be aware of the fact that you may have a run in with a school of brown trout.
 
I heard the county wants the squatters out of Lundberg but they don't have the resources to do it. I am glad that I didn't buy a houseboat or cabin up on the levee like I was considering a couple of years ago I would have to worry about squatters using it during the week.

Well, if they won't do it then Flutterby will lead a mob of angry town folk down there with torches in hand.
 
LOL Not me. I have no dog in that fight! However, I know there are residents who have strong contacts/influence with county officials. And no one wants the island to return to the "old" Delta Resort situation! Stay tuned........

It is the bank's responsibility [owners by default]. All the county needs to do is enforce the laws with the bank.
 
We the working stiff taxpayers bailed out and own the banks and we are spread to thin to deal with this matter. My friend that told me about the Lundberg squatters suggested I drive through there Sunday but I didn't have the stomach to do it. I asked if he had seen the water truck irrigating the hydroseed on the Delta Coves levees and that truck hasn't been around for months, I knew they would run out of maintenance money because their bank, Lehaman Brothers, went tango uniform.

I took my waverunner into Delta Coves the other day. I wonder how many years it's going to sit empty like that? It's too bad because they put lots of money into building those nice concrete docks.
 
I'll drive through next weekend when I'm down there and report back. I also might be talking to some of the folks I referenced. We shall see.....

Delta Coves will start moving when the economy comes back [if ever] and credit is available. I suspect a smart investor will buy the whole development out of bankruptcy court for a dime on the dollar and then resell each lot for a grand profit! With the future super inflation coming, it would be good to take cash and put it into a highly under valued property now.

The county is supposed to be threatening SunCal to get caught up on their hydroseeding and dust control. I see work there off and on. Tough to squeeze blood out of a turnip!
 
I saw on Yahoo last week that Arnold is shutting down all state parks and the governors mansion.
 
After doing some Google searches I found Schwarzenager and the legislature did increase the vehicle license fee last month effective May 19, 2009 http://www.dmv.ca.gov/faq/faq_vlf.htm and .35% goes to the General Fund of the 1.15%. I don't know if this will save our Brannan Island, Delta Meadows and Franks Tract parks.
 
I doubt it. But Brennan Island is the only park which has a heavy presence of personnel. And Franks Tract will just continue to be Franks Tract as it has been for 80 yrs.
