Props to Rutherig Marine Service in Lindenhurst

I got a line wrapped around my prop on Sunday of Memorial Day weekend (yes for those that are counting I am 0 for 3 on uneventful trips) and had to be towed in on Monday morning. Short version is I let someone else take a try on the helm to get the boat away from the dock and he left it in gear and when a line was dropped in the water...it got sucked right onto the shaft.

Anyway, Rutherig was the only service center along that whole canal that wasn't closed on Monday and immediately upon arrival Howie short hauled the boat, helped me cut the line, and did an alignment check to make sure the running gear wasn't impacted. I could have been back on the water within 20 minutes had I not chosen to have him add Southbays on the engines and generator as well as add/replace zincs. But even that he did quickly and I could have picked up the boat the next day had I been around.

The best part was the bill was totally reasonable including the parts.

Hopefully, I will never need them in an emergency again but now I know that they are there 7 days a week.

I used Karl Tank which is next door when I dinged a prop.
He also was very good and fairly reasonable.

I see the line in the water thing alot when people are docking, they throw too early and in the water and boom!

Glad it wasn't too bad.

My first trip was lousy. Wind, rain, waves. Got stuck in mud. Satellite tv didn't work. Windshield lifted from wind.
Sometimes I think boats are just too frustrating!
Maybe I should take up golf again!

I have yet to meet a golfer who's really happy with any particular day's play. Boaters, on the other hand, are frequently happy after even just a few hours on the water. Weigh the options. For a shakedown cruise, CS, that wasn't bad. Hopefully, within a few days all will be repaired. The weather outside is fantastic; you've got a beautiful boat; all the family's well enough to enjoy it. Life is good. Have fun and stay safe. Hy

Jeff, I'm glad it was just an inconvenience. I have a sharp knife, flippers and a mask on the boats at all times. Most times you can cut it free with out too much trouble and save the tow and short haul.

Dave, not that I didn't sign up for her but try a 1977 boat with a fresh water leak. I must have twenty hours trying to track it down.

I've also had an experience at Rutherig's a couple of years ago when I needed a part on a weekend, and they were excellent to deal with. He didn't have it in stock, but he took the time to find what I needed in his pile of used stuff to get me going.
Karl Tank is right next to Rutherig. I used to dock there. Karl is very honest, thorough, and treats your boat like it is his own. Very meticulous.

I have been using Rutherig for winterization including shrink wrap, storage and launching my boat for a few years now. They are very good, competitively priced and very dependable!
