I'm thinking of buying a new stainless steel prop. Assuming that the parameters (diameter,
pitch, rake, etc) are all OK, what, if any, is a reason to buy an expensive one vs a lower price one? Are there significant differences in quality, construction, etc? I'm asking the question in general, but the two brands I'm considering are Quicksilver and Turning Point.

Thanks........Roy

I suppose there's an argument to be made that the more expensive the prop, the more it's been tested and developed; and the better constructed it is. Personally, I'm a big fan of Solas props and have changed over to them on 3 different boats. They tend to be significantly less expensive than other brands. They're very well constructed and once I'd zeroed in on the pitch I needed, they worked great.

I hemmed, hawed and researched for 2 seasons over which props to buy for my current boat. I couldn't decide on pitch (17 or 18) and I didn't want to get it wrong. I finally went to a local, expert prop shop (Bossler and Sweezey on L.I.). I told them all about the boat and what I was trying to accomplish. I DIDN't say anything about which props I had in mind (Solas). The tech there looked over the notes he'd taken, and recommended Solas Rubex in 17 pitch. They're working out well.

I am partial to Mercruiser and Hydromotive. You may want to factor in that I have a performance type boat. You may want to talk to a good prop shop. Another source for info is other owners of your model boat.

Google PropMD. I used them for my old boat and they're recommendations worked out perfectly. Their prices are really good too.
