One again I am posting about our bow Purasan. This is the old system not the EX.

The canister is not emptying the water and fills all the way up. We have replaced the expensive check valve, the hoses, everything. We even moved the canister up a few inches to make sure gravity would work as it should.

Any suggestions. We are at our wits end.

Ugh, they can be a real PITA! My older system will sometimes clog/stop draining for no reason it seems. Have you removed the drain hose/tube from the bottom of the canister and does it drain that way?

There was a member on this forum (Danny) that I haven't heard from in a while. He configured and sold me (for next to nothing) a different chemical feed inlet that goes into the hose feeding the Purasan instead of going into the top of the unit. What configuration do you have? Does your chemical feed go into the top of the Purasan?

Kurt: thanks for replying. Yes to both of your questions. We would be interested in the work-around you are using. We are just before using the holding tank. We have spent $1000 trying to fix this POS Purasan. The Purasan in the master head works great and both were installed at the same time.

Do you have the Hold 'N Treat configuration?

No, we treat and it goes overboard. Does not go into the holding tank, ever.

Do you keep your canister lid tight or loose for venting? If tight check the O-ring for damage (of loose, the condition of the O-ring doesn't matter). Have you tested all the check valves?

Yes, we have checked all the check valves (those expensive little devils).

We will check the O ring but we the lid is not tight, tight. The check valve on the vent pipe is clear.

Again, thank you for helping.

Does it empty if you pull the connection (post over-priced red check valve) at the top of the Purasan?

Yes, the canister empties if you disconnect the tubing but the tubing is not clogged. Nothing seems to be clogged up but that does not make sense. We have even cleaned the unit completely to make sure nothing has backed up in it.

I have Hold 'N Treat, but same principle. My original version Purasan does similar to yours at time. Solution will drain at top of unit but there's back pressure or something that develops sometimes and won't allow draining. Sometimes I have to get a new O-ring for the top of the treatment canister and keep the lid tight. Sometimes I keep the lid loose (like currently). It has worked better since Danny had me move the treatment solution inlet from the top of the unit to the waste line going into the unit. At first I didn't need a check valve (which, as you know, gets ruined by the chemical). But lately I've had to put one back in to keep waste from heading up into the canister. If you're plumbing-handy cap off the inlet on top of the Purasan and get some PVC fittings to connect that feed line into the waste line a few feed away (and above) the Purasan. I can take a picture I suppose but I won't be to boat until this weekend. It is basically a T-fitting that fits your waste line as well as the chemical feed line.

I will look at your solution when I get to the boat this weekend. If not too much trouble please send photo

Here's the adapter Dannny suggested. This allows the chemical to drain into the waste line that feeds the Purasan instead of at the top of the Purasan. At first I didn't need a check valve but now I do for some reason.

Can you please resend that photo again? I looked at it last weekend but now it will not allow me to view it.
