I currently have a fresh water vacu-flush system and i am wondering what type to install. I understand i would need the salt feeder due to the fresh water flushing but it appears that the Purasan only requires the tablets. Any thoughts ?

Read over the Owner's Manuals and installation requirements for the two products, taking particular note of the distance requirements above the treatment unit, for the tablet canister of the Purasan, then come to your own conclusions. This is the absolute minimum space requirement, and it cannot be avoided, bypassed, or "worked-around."

Neither treatment system is a match made in heaven, when combined with a Vacu-Flush. The systems were designed more for connection to conventional macerating-type marine toilets, or manually-operated pump toilets. Note that in the case of a Vacu-Flush, the distance between the treatment unit and the head is changed to the distance between the treatment unit and the vacuum pump (six foot hose-length limitation).

I have had both, I like the PuraSan better, I find the cartridges last long if you set the treatment cartridge canistor's water level properly. I use a Marine Elegance but used a VacuFlush on both systems prior and they worked ok. I had to install a commercial grade check valve on the inlet side of the PuraSan (because it is mounted above the holding tank). However my system uses the PuraSan with the Hold-N-Treat system which doesn't care what type of head you use because it has it's own Macerator transfer pump and draws the waste from my holding tank. The key reason I like the PuraSan better is it draws considerably less current than the LectraSan from my house bank. It's the best of both worlds since I boat between NDZ's and non NDZ's.

+1 to what Bill said. Same here: Marine elegance and Purasan with a Hold-N-Treat set-up. I had the Electro Scan too (it's still in my garage), but I prefer the Purasan. Cartridges aren't cheap, but last well over a year with heavy non-live-aboard use (we live aboard 1 month per year and most weekends between March and December).
