Put-In-Bay, Lake Erie

I'm a week away from starting holidays.

Seems based on the above emails that the most likelyhood of crossing paths with some of you guys will be at Cedar Point Marina.

So, SLW, Dogdaze and Marykhubby feel free to walk over to Pier 11 on Thursday July 4th or Friday July 5th and say hi.

I'll likely be bowed in so we can drop our Mercury Inflatable from the davits and leave it behind our swim platform.

We're 35' 1" overall and the inflatable would add about another 5' to our length.

Any real advantages to requesting a 50 foot dock on pier 11 over the 40 foot dock if one happens to be available? We have reservations for pier 11 and assume they plan to put us on the 40 foot side based on our length.

Thanks,
Mike.

Hey Niles, thanks for your post & the update.. sounds like fun & always nice to have the moon light to light up the lake for you like that.. :)

Mike, thanks for your note as well.. I'd have no problem going to the 40' side if you can get over there.. there is plenty of room between 11 & 12 for you.. so no worries there.. we are 39'3" LOA prior to the dinghy on the Hurley Davit.. & actually extended out beyond the 40' pier w/NO problems or issues over there.. so, plenty of room... also, the wells are several feet wider (as opposed to Pier 1) so you should be able to bring the dinghy up to the main pier or tie off on the side too if you wish.

We should be around 4th of July.. so be sure to motor by.. (just in case I forget to come look/see you.)
btw, I have still yet to launch the dinghy.. but have plans to have it there before the 4th of July...

as for the 40' vs 50' dock on pier 11, I think you pay for the entire 40 or 50' accordingly. (fixed rate) so, you would save a few $$ if you can get on the 40' side..

ALSO, know that ALL the outlets on pier 11 are 50 AMP.. so, if you have 2 30's you'll need to have.. (or rent) the 50/30 split... yea, it's that $350 Marinco split right?? They do rent them in the office if you need one.. (I think by design..) I do have an extra I'd be interested in selling should you have an interest.. (but let me know in advance so I can bring it along) - j

DogDaze,

Thanks for the info and heads up with the 50 amp only service on pier 11.

I'd consider purchasing your extra 50 amp adpater from you, but I can't remember anytime in the last tens years were I had problems obtaining power with just my 30 amp cord ends. I have got caught with needing a 15 to 30 adapter a couple times and do have that adapter as well as a single 30 amp splitter adapter. So based on that experience it wouldn't likely be worth the purchase. But thanks for the offer.

Do you rent your 50 amp extra adapter cheaper that CP. :)

Mike.

Yes, you guys were on Pier11 the last time we headed your way... been a few years, but we are breaking the bank this year (gas wise).
Hope to See everyone next week! (still have a couple of engine tweaks before she's ready this week, so hopefully my mechanic doesn't thwart our trip)
Regs,
Don

We made it - CP dock 1143 (pier 11)
Departure is planned for Saturday morning (weather pending).

Hi Mike, just saw your note here. Some how BE failed to bump me on the post updates.. Welcome to Cedar Point.. & I'm not even certain what CP is charging per day for those cords, but sure see a lot of them coming out of the office this week... (cash cow?) lol

Hey DogDaze, thanks for the brief visit via inflatable over to our boat on Pier 11 yesterday (July 4th). Not nice the sky opened up and it poured buckets shortly after your arrival.

My wife and I will take a walk over to your dock sometime today (July 5th) and see if we can catch ya for a couple minute chat. We plan to head back up into Lake St. Clair tomorrow morning.

Rental of the 50 amp adapter from CP was $10.00

We are at the Vermilion Yacht Club right now but we are leaving for CP in the morning (Tuesday). This weather has been crazy, storms everyday since we left on 7/3. We have traveled in lots of rain but not really any storms. We are still having fun and getting to do things but it would be nice for the bad weather to be gone.

Hi Mike & Niles,

Mike, it was really nice to meet you & your family.. As Niles eluded to, all this rain is crazy.. (15 straight days & counting)
Starting to get a little soggy by now for sure.. my wife noted that it was a good thing we all have boats.. (cause we're gonna need them if this continues much longer)

Mike, I didn't see your note till after the weekend.. (typically very little social media while at the boat) but we do appreciate the repeated attempts to get to see you.. it was nice of you to stop by & we hope the remainder of your trip went well. It was really nice to meet you & we look forward to staying in touch.

Even with all the rain, I still can't believe how quickly the days off passed us by.. most likely cause we were so busy trying to stay dry... I had a couple changes of cloths every day the entire Holiday & weekend.. a very strange & non typical weather pattern for sure..

BTW, Get this, our dock neighbors were at PIB for the 4th & NO RAIN there to speak of.. a little sprinkle & maybe a bit of rain one overnight, but otherwise nothing like we saw at CP. (just 18 miles away right?)

Niles, I think after tomorrow, (Wed) its supposed to finally dry out some I think.. so, if you can last that long.. :)

We got to CP Tuesday and got on pier 11 which was almost empty. We did get into the park mid afternoon and came out for dinner right before the skies opened up. We never did get back in. Wednesday morning we moved over to the new city dock in downtown Sandusky. We walked the downtown area and had lunch…got back to the boat right before all he$$ broke loose. Lots of rain, high winds and tornado warning. The storm broke up after a couple hours and the evening was great.

Today we plan to move over to Middle Bass for a couple days before crossing into Canada and working our way home.

Niles

Where did you have dinner in Sandusky, and how was it?

Hi Niles,

Yea, it's been a wet week so far... I heard there was a really close lightning strike down by pier 14.. it was enough to knock out power to the CP Marina for ~10-15 minutes I guess... (not sure about the Main Park) The new marina downtown IS nice.. & good food too at the Dockside Cafe.. (if it's not raining)

You should be good the rest of the week now that all that nasty WX has finally cleared out.. (like 16 days later)
Have fun over at Middle Bass.. - j
