As I posted before, I am considering the purchase of a '87 Luhrs Alura 35. This boat sank in saltwater. The engines have peen pickled. Obviously, there will need to be extensive cleaning. The engines /electical are not a problem for me as I have rebuilt several in the past, (boats and engines). My major concern is more about the hull construction. How can I tell if there is balsa coring? I am concerned that if, even after restoration, and dehumidification, there could be problems later with the hull. The boat sank due to a broken raw water strainer, coupled with bad pumps/dead batteries.
Per a repley I recieved, I called the Luhrs factory to see if they could give me some info on the construction of the hull. They were pretty useless. It appears that the 87- 89 model years were built off site at the Hunter Marine factory. I also called there, but, had similar results. So, as of now, I placed a bid the boat, and will continue to seek info on the construction of the hull. Thanks again in advance of any info or suggustions, Mark
