The reason I aimed this to Les to begin with is it is more a parts question than a tech one, unless some one has a better idea...
Project motor:
1972 Evinrude 125 originally pulse pack ignition with trigger.
Problem:
After spending much money buying faulty pulse packs, proving that they were defective workmanship and not getting warrenty resolution, and being stuck out in the water and either having to get towed or troll in with trolling motor, done away with pulse pack.
On recemendation from another boater with same issues, bought and installed an msd 6al ignition system. this system will not talk to the oem ignition trigger, bought new one to make sure. Contacted MSD's enginering department and they also said it would not work with the oem trigger, that I would have to either install some other type switch or points.
My question's are, is there a set of points that with fit in the same mount as the trigger does now?( maybe from an eairler design ) Is there a magnetic type trigger that will fit in the mount ( maybe from a later model )?
My options are to install points, install a magnetic switch that doesn't require a magnitized indexing wheel, or to mill out slots in the current indexing wheel and install magnets. Right now I am leaning towards installing magnets because that widens my selection of switches I can use. The magnetic switch selection is very small, and size is prohibitive with the couple I have actually found. The selection is much wider with the ones that require a magnetic indexing wheel, and thier size is much smaller.
Thanks for taking the time.....D..........
