Quicksilver 3000 =no start

I have a 95 rinker 232 with a 454 and a brovo 1.My problem was it would not start,I got it to start by jumping the pos on the battery to the coil.I checked the igntion switch etc etc. and the way I got it to start normal was to move the stick on the quicksilver 3000. Now it starts fine runs under power great but it has a skip at a constant speed not often just enought to scare the crap out of you.Now to my question is there something in the controller that can short to ground to cause this. thanks Robert
