I'm looking at purchasing a pair of 5.7 long blocks from RapidO marine. I'm from up north wisconsin and there are few reman companies up here. Anyone have any feedback on RapidO, good OR bad? They have been in business for 16 years. Anyone have a 16 year old RapidO reman still going strong?? I'm a little nervous about dealing with a company so far away. How are they to work with? Do they have quality built engines? My marina only deals with two reman companys because they trust them. RapidO isnt one of them but they ARE $600 cheaper than my marina's best price. If I get good feedback on them I'll do my best to talk the marina into giving them a try. I just don't want to have the things grenade and get the big I told you so.

How to put this kindly?

Two things come to mind:

1: You get what you pay for...

2: If a deal sounds too good to be true, it probably is...

yeah, that's what i started thinking after posting the suggestion to ask here in the otehr thread... $3700 (was it ?) for TWO long blocks including shipping 1500 miles ? sounds cheap... too cheap.

$3400 delivered. Thats about $600 cheaper than my marina. PPT has "new" long blocks $5400 plus shipping. Jasper was near that for remans. The quote from RapidO was the cheapest out of the nine quotes.

If that O at the end is not a typo, I would stay away.

DL, did you look at the pictures of their shop on the web site? Not to put too fine an edge on it, but I'd have to say Miami chop shop at it's worst.

what I found a little odd is how hard it was to find their physical address on the site, it's only listed on the shipping page. no toll free number could also be a sign of a purely local business that doens't do a lot of out of state business...

i don't know about the chop shop... many marine or automotive business operate out of similar buildings...

Pascal, what I found odd also was they claim to be in Hollywood but have a 786 phone number.

I checked his ebay feedback and it was all positive. Feedback goes back 5 years. Trouble with ebay feedback is its given apon delivery and not after the first 1000 hours of use.

well, they have been in miami, move to broward but kept their 786 nr with vonage...

it just sounds too cheap...

They do have a very long list of customers on their web site that states please contact any of our customers at anytime. I think I would be sending a few emails. Although I am sure any unhappy ones are not listed. Word of mouth is always the best advertising tool.

Since when paying more equates to better quality or reliability?????? I have had many instances where I paid good money for services and was disappointed. Likewise, there have been instances where I got a bargain and was very happy with the results.

Ralph, I don't know about you but I never go with the lowest bid on anything.
