Have any of you ever had your Sherwood raw water (engine) pumps rebuilt? Am thinking about replacing my original pumps and have run across a company that rebuild/ re manufactures them for about half the price of new.

I wouldn't have problem but only if they're local. The reason I say local is because if you do have a problem face to face matters.

Depco does well. Some model are simple to do yourself

Thanks, Don't see anything on their website suggesting they rebuild pumps.

yes Clearwater. You can send your pumps to them. I dont know if they stock rebuilt pumps. That would be difficult because there are so many models.

They have major rebuild kits and it's not too difficult a job. I rebuilt one for a spare and bought one new.

I'll just note: Some pumps are a lot easier to rebuild than others.

The Sherwood P105 crank-mounted pumps I use ( as OEM parts ) on my Crusader 5.7 MPIs proved impossible for me to dismantle for a rebuild. Maybe Depco could accomplish that, dunno. As I recall the pump diagram showed circlips where there were none, and with great effort I was unable to press the shaft out or something similar to that ( several years ago.)
After that it was much easier for me to rationalize just going ahead & purchasing all-new replacements and spare pumps for the P105's.
I most always keep at east one painted spare on board.

It's amazing, how "easy" a hydraulic press, even a small one, makes press-off/press-on look. Compared to screws, levers, prying, beating...

That and the correct set of jigs/blocks/etc. to go with that press and that specific application.

Greg: I looked up the Depco site and didn't find any mention of their rebuilding service so I sent an inquiry. Here is the response.

Good Afternoon Bruce – Yes, we do repair marine and industrial pumps. We offer a free estimate to repair and you can contact my service dept directly with any questions. I have copied Dan and Rob both in on this email.

Thanks!

No doubt about that, JD, but I'd venture the "average boater" thinking of rebuilding his pump with the kit would not likely have exactly was was needed for press-out or -in parts in some of these kits.
I'm pretty resourceful dealing with press-out parts but the P105 beat me hands-down and the fact the internals were different than the included diagram was disappointing.
Depco is a potentially a great alternative.

I remember wanting to rebuild a power steering pump. Couldn't wait to get the kit. Took one look and couldn't wait to take it back! I later found a "seal kit" that was just the reservoir O-Ring gaskets and the shaft seal. That, I could do, and it solved most of my problems with that class of pump.

Then Ford Explorer rear wheel bearings... There's a screw-based "on the vehicle" tool assortment that doesn't have very positive reviews. That, or take it to a shop with a press. The good shops have special fittings to allow a time saving by pressing the bearing with the parking brake still in place. The more they invest, the more they make.

Ordered 2 rebuilt Sherwood P110 raw water pumps from www.rawpumps..com. Ordered them on Tues and arrived Friday. $290. Per pump. These are complete rebuilds, impeller, shaft, cam, bearings and seals as well as new, stainless steel back plates. Look like new pumps inside and out. Have to send the old cores back. Great service and 90 day warranty.
