Really poor engine performance

So, very clean strainer and clean anti siphon valve, I thought at first the presure required to move the ball was a bit much but from what I assertained, its normal. I ran the gas tank dry and will fill that at the earliest and I took out all non essential weight, so Friday I will give it another go. The prop is only a year old,and I didn't really hit anything so I doubt the hub is spun, I will keep an eye on that. The wires looked pretty good to. My last check will be the carb, would it be better to have it rebuilt or just get a new one? I understand Rochester carbs are better than Mercarbs...??
 
I wasn't referring to how they look but are they hooked to the correct plugs???
 
I think Tredwell Carb is about $175 to rebuild it. Its a guy who does the work himself in update NY. I think he has been doing carbs for a long time. I would guess a new carb is $400+

As other have said, verify each wire is going to the plug it should be going to. Although you only need to verify the first 7 wires.
 
You say plug wires look good? How old are they? If they're more than five years old change them and if the plugs are more that two years old change them. You're looking to eliminate things that you can before you bring in a pro. One question about the prop, did it reach WOT last year?
 
Have you done a compression check yet? I had the exact same symptoms, thought it was the carb. Turned out to be a tuliped valve. Doesn't take long and rules out more serious problems.
 
So, my mechanic says the number 2 plug was loose, new tune up and the boat is back to normal, it was the only plug I didn't try to take out being that there was to much stuff in front of it and all the other plugs looked fine...figures eh?
 
That's great the culprit was found and you are finally back in the boating biz to hopefully enjoy the rest of the summer and fall OTW.
But it has to be kind of tough to find out it was something you mentioned you checked and ruled out back on May 27.
