twin 351 pleasure crafts with straight velvet drive inboards
when in neutral with engines off the port drive shaft/ tranny is twice as hard to turn as the starboard.
i have issue where the engine seams to die under load at idle and the drivetrain/engine makes and odd sound. my mechanic last fall recommended a car rebuild (yes car rebuild) as he has seen issues with the rear cyl not getting gas a low speed and causing a "lash" with the trans. really rebutable guy in our area but these seamed crazy to me.
we'll $400 and not really having the new carbs dialed in yet (yes it ran better before he did them) I still have the issue. runs great (and sounds fine at higher speeds) after pulling in to pump out or get gas (thus warm engine and drive train) the port engine will die a couple times when trying to get out of the marina. i have finally attributed to the fact the drive train may be hanging.
if there is resistance in the drive train can it be in the shafts or most likly the velvet drive? does anyone have any experience or knowledge of failure trends in this unit (don't have model number here at home).
