Hi all. I'm hoping some of you can help me out. Yesterday while running my boat it seems I broke a connecting rod in the engine as it busted through the engine case. I have a 2005 2 stroke Yamaha 200 hp salt water series outboard. Not sure why it happened yet but regardless of the why or how it looks like I have a costly dilemma on my hands. Does anyone know if it is worth fixing my current engine or am I looking for a complete re-power? Also can anyone recommend a repair shop/yard for a rebuild or re-power. I'm in the Lindenhurst area. Thanks in advance for your help.

No idea on rebuild or repower.
I would ask a expert.

You can try Vinny at East shore, they are a yamaha dealer.

Do you have a single or twins? A friend had a similar issue a couple years ago, right around the same age Yamaha 2 stroke. He got the new powerhead, then the following year the other motor started having issues and had to do that one too. By time he was done he was halfway to what it would have cost to buy brand new 4 strokes with warranties and he was questioning if fixing what he had was the right move. Something to consider.

No question, reposed and eliminate problems

Get prices for both a power head replacement or a new 4 stroke. The new 4 strokes are so much quieter and smoother, it's probably worth it

Call Accurate Marine 631-589-5502 ask for Chip and tell him Walter gave you his number from Boater Ed.

He is a Yamaha Dealer with a full machine shop. He also stocks rebuilt power heads. Most shops use his shop to do rebuilds because he has a full machine shop.

Thank you all for the input. I think the best way to go is a 4 stroke repower and up the HP a bit but the cost is a huge factor. Don't think I can swing a brand new 4 stroke. I've got Vinny at East shore looking at it probably tomorrow so hopefully I'll know more then.

JohnC, I only have the single engine, but I hear what you're saying.

Walter, thanks for the referral, I'll definitely give them a call.
