Just wanted to write to you all on this forum and let you know what a great time we had on a recent trip to Alexandria Bay. It was our first time there and we stayed at the Riveredge Resort. We are from the Chesapeake Bay area in Maryland and have to say that boating in your area really looks great. We were really surprised by the number of boats that came and went from the marina at the hotel. Seemed that most of the boaters must have been from the Canadian side as they all seemed to speak French. There were a few boaters from the US, but by far there seemed to be more from the Canadian side. We took the boat trip out and around the islands in the area and to the castle that was really great. Was wondering, do you all actually boat around there at night? There are little "islands" sticking up out of the water all over the place. Anyway, you all really have a great place to boat and we look forward to coming back again some time in the future.

It's the ones that don't stick up that get you.....

Love going from 180 feet to zero in 4 seconds! Seriously, though, if I am out at night I stick to the shipping channel or other areas I am very familiar with. Only those with great local knowledge zoom about care-free.

The last two weeks of July we are invaded by the Montreal, Quebec Navy. They shut down similar to Europe and head for our area. Glad you had a good time. Been boating up here since early 80's and
still finding new nooks and crannys (ugh).

Just returned from our first trip to the 1000 Islands and loved the area.
Let me add...our encounters with the "Quebec Navy" were friendly, courteous and a lot of fun. And there was cetainly no shortage of scantilly clad attractive women.

As far as the rest of the scenery...Milton Island was a treat with it's protected cove....the clear water around Georgina Island was like something out of the Caribbean...as was Thartway. Of course, Boldt Castle speaks for itself. A terrific way to spend an afternoon.

All in all a great trip. Can't wait to go back.

Having a GPS in the 1000 Islands, St. Lawrence river is essential for larger boats. And they work great, if you zoom in, they show every rock! If you are careful and use a GPS you should be able to go anywhere. Of course, we don't go fast, no need to, it is so beautiful to enjoy and see.

I have no problem with the "Quebec Navy". It is just a term used by some of us because so many of them visit our area at one time. I in turn have visited the Province of Quebec 4 or 5 times by boat and truly had a great adventure.

Sorry Ray,
I didn't mean to imply you had any issues with the Quebecois.
In preparing for our trip I heard a lot of negatives about the "Quebec Navy" and was advised to be prepared.
I won't get into specifics because I found none of them to be true. In fact, it was just the opposite...all of our encounters were nothing but positive.

And let me say again how much we enjoyed our first trip to the 1000 Islands. Hopefully next time we can meet up with you and some other board members and share a few "pops".
