About a year ago I bought a 1986 32' Carver Montego with 454 350HP Crusaders. I am almost ready to get rid of the boat now because the exhaust noise is so loud, you can't hear yourself think. Local mechanic said he thought he could fix the problem by installing mufflers used on Mastercraft boats but it would cost me $2000 per engine. Carver dealer said he would check with Carver to see if they had a solution but he never got back to me. Friends of mine have suggested that the solution is as simple as installing exhaust extensions so the exhaust exits under water, but I worry about back pressure and water flowing backwards through the exhaust (and why didn't Carver use these in the first place?).
