There is a beautiful boat of unquestioned quality and reputation which is listed for ~$200,000 less than comparable boats by this manufacturer. It has less than 1,000 hours.
The boat was being delivered new in 2002 when the captain found it the next day high and dry on a sandbar in an area on the west coast with large tidal action. Thinking he would float it with the next tide, he found it totally submerged the next day. A helm door had apparently been left open.
The new owner gutted the interior and pickled the diesel engine. The generator had to be replaced. One of the Naiad's was replaced due to damage on the sandbar. Otherwise, there was no hull damage.
The broker told me that all of the electrical panels had been replaced. When I asked if all of the wiring had been replaced, he told me that the wiring was "cut back" but not completely replaced.
One prospective buyer backed out because he couldn't get insurance.
Would you consider this boat or run away? I'm very leary, to say the least.
