Hello Long Island Cruising Club.
I have been presented an incredible opportunity for advancement within my Company. However, I will have to relocate to somewhere between Ronkonkoma and Farmingdale, LI.
Downside is we have a very inexpensive functional marina in Westerly RI that we will have to leave.
Question is where is a good location over on the Island ? Port Jeff or other and what are the "average" slip fees. We are 40' oal with a 14' beam, 30 amp service and do not require any other amenities. We are not "stay at the dock boaters" and are kids are all grown. Suggestions ??
I need to decide quickly, within 2 weeks, so fire away some basic thoughts. BTW, see you all in the spring, lol

I don't think you will find anything inexpensive on the North Shore.

$100-140 would be a going rate at many local marinas on the South Shore.

I am sure someone from the Anchorage YC will give you an offer. Most will include winter storage for the price.

Or you can try to find someone with a house that has a private slip / bulkhead for rent.

North Shore is deep and rocky with access to the Long Island Sound, Connecticut, etc. South shore is shallower and sandy with access to the Great South Bay, Atlantic Ocean and Fire Island. You'll have to decide what you prefer. As said, the North Shore is usually more expensive. It seems most of the folks on this particular forum are South Shore boaters concentrated between Seaford and Sayville so there's a ton of good info regarding the Great South Bay to be had, which is where I boat.

I would move here, great home, great dock space and IMHO, a very good price

As far as North Shore boating compared to South Shore, I need more info on what you expect or want when you boat. The great thing about Long Island is we have two totally different places to boat, your needs and desires will dictate which shore is best for you to boat on.

Walter

PS
I live on the North Shore, but boat on the South Shore

Don,
Your house is mint, no kids in school, this is the perfect scenario for what he is looking for, no brainer IMHO.
