I removed a keel guard that was loose and now I find that the gel coat is missing from under the guard, in order to repair the keel I would like to know what product is used or procedure to remove the adhesive and silicone, I tried acetone and it just balls it up, other items I tried did not work.

Try 3M Adhesive Remover.

Silicone I usually rub off with my hands and fingers or a wooden stick.

I would suggest that you Google DeBond 2000 and look at the description.

I've used it to remove many different adhesives, including silicones, with great success.

Or anti-bond.

I've also used the anti-bond vs the the DeBond 2000.

The DeBond 2000 is far superior in performance and speed of removal. Plus, it doesn't leave a sticky mess like the anti-bond.

I'll keep that in mind.

Thanks everyone for some ideas that will make the job easier, I will have to wait for spring as winter is approaching here in the midwest, I just saw a barge out the window heading north on o'l man river, little time is left for them also.

Bob, Where did you find DeBond?

Ron

I bought it locally. However, Hamilton Marine and Torrensen have web sites where it can be purchased.
