Hi all! I just purchased a 1988 3297 after our 1977 2896 sank on New Years at the dock(dont ask). We have to move it on land to get it home and are going to have to remover the windshield to get hieght clearance. Has anyone done this or know how to? Great forums, i've read every post here!

Thanks
Doug

The windshield is actually quite easy to remove. There are plastic covers at the base of each panel...remove those and take out the screws. If memory serves me, you have to pull one of the fwd panels first (port, I believe) and then you can remove all of the panels. Keep in mind there will be wiring for the wipers and for the nav/anchor light mounted on the front panels.

Ahh yes, I knew that boat a few years ago. The main reason I asked is a friend of mine that I work with just sold an 88 32 Mariner thats headed for WA this spring as well!

How is he moving it? I'd be curious! You say you know this boat? Any insight?

I dont know it well, I just used to see it pretty often around Chicago and long time ago New Buffalo. Hes trucking the boat, the windshield is coming off like you will need to do and as Ramsport47 said its pretty easily removed.

I'd be curiuos to know what hes paying for the move. I got a few quotes around 5200-6000 for the trip. Im looking into moving it my self. I can rent a trailer and get it here for around 2500
thanks

Speaking of removing the windshield, I have an 86 Mariner and envy those with the 88's or newer that have that little side window that opens to let air in. On a hot day, it would be nice to have a breeze coming through there. Has anyone tried modifying, adding or swapping or something to add those in? Or some other idea?

Interesting. My 86 Mariner has the vent windows. I don't think I've ever seen a 3297 without em. They are invaluable on hot summer days here in Florida.

The really early '86's didn't have them, but they were added soon after production began. It's hard to be behind that large windscreen and not have airflow!

Man, once the temp rises and no wind, not having those vents can be brutal. Find myself standing the entire ride. Bought a small fan to keep air moving but doesn' help much. Any ideas to adding those vents would be awesome!!!!!

You can check with Taylor Made Systems as they're the ones who made the windscreen for Carver...They may be able to make new side windows for you.

Agreed, I am not sure I want to hear what custom making of this would cost. Would be nicer to find a used one to replace...

I am not 100% sure but I have heard quotes as high at $5,000 for the small venturi windshield like the one on my 370. After that, I baby mine.

There is A place in Florida that custom makes windshield parts for boats that don't have them available any longer...unfortunately, I don't remember their name, but you could send them the frames and they could retrofit your existing frames with new glass and vents. If memory serves, they weren't outrageously expensive...we had a couple of panels made for a 25 Montego a few years back that a tree fell on...good work and matched the old stuff perfectly.
