Hello All,

I have a 32 Carver Montego. The boat has a dual trumpet horn and it is not working properly. It can be fixed, but I would prefer a brand new shiny one. Do any of you know the manufacturer of the OEM horn? Really don't want to alter the mounting holes.

On a side note, are the electric horns loud enough? My old Carver had the same horn and it sounded like a hyundai! Also, are the compressor horns very hard to set up?

Thanks,

Jim

Check the wires, I remember the wires were the problem not the horns on that boat.

My 27 Montego and 32 Mariner both had AFI dual trumpets from the factory. I went thru an AFI replacement horn in 2 years. Replaced it with Ongaro dual trumpets-same footprint as the AFI. 7 years later, still work fine. AFI guts are not all stainless whereas the Ongaro's are.

Jim...the original dual trumpet is an AFI, however, they do not make a replacement for it. Ongaro makes a horn that is a direct replacement (I just replaced one on a 1987 3207 Aft Cabin...bolted right up with a little adjusting to the trumpet locations) and is made of stainless steel instead of chromed plastic. The Ongaro horn has the "rubber" feet under each horn and is very loud.

I just got a verh helpful email from Les indicating that Ongaro has replaced this model (10008) with a newer version. There are a few still out there somewhere I am sure, but at full list price. Found one for $180 and I have ordered it. Hopefully it is still sitting on a shelf there. The newer replacement from Ongaro looks to be different mounting and I don't want to deal with that.

The one I took off of the boat appeared to be original and it looks identical to the Ongaro in every aspect.

Thanks,

Jim

We just got one in last week and was a direct replacement for the AFI...I don't remember the part number, but we just got it from our supplier...one that doesn't really stock alot so they don't have alot of leftover product at the end of the year.

Jim,
the issue with the horn when I had it was that the amps were not enough for the horn when the boat was not running. I replaced that horn as well. Did not help. I tested by removing the lead to one horn and then tested individually. They work by themselves when the engines were not running. When the engines were running and the boat was moving both trumpets worked great and loud.
