I have a 6 year old Raytheon 420 now Raymarine GPS chartplotter that losses it's waypoints when shutoff. It appears that the internal battery needs replacement.
The Raymarine web site indicates that the flat rate for battery replacement is $159.00.
This seems high to me for a part that I was told costs about $7.00.
I phoned the technical service at Raymarine and was advised that the replacement is difficult and should not be performed by other than the Raymarine service Dept. I could not get any estimate of the expected time to replace the battery but was advised that the hourly rate is 90 dollars/hr. It was stated that just replacing the battery is not the total job and there is some additional setup that is required after replacement, suggesting that I could not do this with the owners manual. Also the parts folks told me that they do not have the batteries in stock but expect to get them in 2 weeks. The service dept apparently has some but will not sell them.
I am wondering if anyone has experience with battery replacement in a Raymarine GPS or other comments. I'm going to follow up with a local repair shop.
Also I assume boatfix does not perform electronics repairs.
