I'm replacing my old macerator pump that was mounter about 3 feet from the holding tank. The instructions for the new Jabsco pump say to mount it as close as possible to the tank. Would I be better off screwing it directly into the tank flange and running a new hose to the discharge thru-hull? I do have the room to do this.

If it worked well and functioned properly where it was I's leave it there. IMHO.

return it and get a sea land bellows pump! those Jabsco dont' last and burn up if run dry even a short time.

if you really want to replace it again in the future, then you can mount it 3' away, no problem especially if it's mounted below tank level so that the pump doesn't have to run dry to prime. if it is mounted above tank level (if tank use a dip tube) it will run dry for a short time every time you use it and shorten its life.

mounting directly to a flange on the tank may crack the tank/flange/pump. Keep a few inches of hose in between as a minimum.
Also, those jabsco pumps are known to corrode at the long thru bolts holding the pump together. There is a another brand out there (don't remember the brand) that has plastic or stainless bolts that do not corrode and fail.

Whale also makes a great diaphram pump. It is alot more compact than the sealand, and mounts in any position. Looks alot nicer after installation.

I put a whale pump in Charmer's summer tender (13 whaler with the typical whaler 1" water sloshing in the boat) to use with 50 gallon bladder as a back unto the water maker. The pump is used to empty thebladder into the water. Two summers exposed and sti working. It s a rubber maid box which offer some protection but still exposed

no Bill i wouldn't recommend it over the Sealand but i don't necessarily agree that they are cheaply made and don't last.

one reason i prefer the sealand is that it uses the standard duckbills you can find just about everywhere whereas the Whale's are harder to find.

Anybody know what the difference is between the "T" discharge pump and the "S" pump used in the Vacuflush system? They look very similar, and have the same specs. Asking because, you guessed it, I have a spare "S" pump and would like to switch out the Jabsco some day.

When you have to replace one because the plastic gears stripped out, think of me. :-)

The T is a waste pump and the S is their sump drain pump. But as far as I know there are the same pump physically.

Why would you like to switch out to a Jabsco George?

George, the S pump as two pairs of duckbills, the T pump has only one pair... and to make sure nobody gets tempted to use a cheaper T pump on a VF, the threads are reversed :(

no reason why you can't use an S pump for discharge, in a bind you could also use a T pump on a Vacuflush; although it may not hold vacuum as well it should build enough vacuum to flush

Bill, I will :)

Thanks guys. Just took a look and saw that the S vacuum version sells for over double what the T pump out version does, which in turn costs a little over double the price of the Jabsco. But, I got a spare S... Actually I use the macerator pump very rarely, usually use the marina pump out, but more frequently lately since we moved to a marina without in-slip pump out, and go off shore fairly frequently. Having a 210 gallon holding tank with Vacuflush toilets helps too.

Wow, a 210 gallon holding tank; that's a lot of crap! [:-bigeyes] [:-bigeyes]

I hope it never springs a leak! [:-cry] [:-cry]
