replacing stripped out snap-screw

I had a snap for my canvas pull out of the fiberglass boat. The screw end pulled out of the hole which is now stripped. I'm sure this is a common problem. What is the preferred way to repair it. I am considering shooting a dab of 5200 into the old hole, or maybe Marine Tex.

Thoughts....?
 
5200 won't work. It never hardens completely and the snap will pull back out. I fill with Marinetex and re-drill.
 
I use loktite,a two part epoxy sold at hardware stores. Drill out hole slightly larger to give a fresh surface,mix up a small amount of two part epoxy, and use a tootpick to push into the hole. When Thoroughly dry in a day or so redrill your hole. Never had one pull out again. If hole is larger(1/4 in.) I imbed a piece or two of the toothpick in with the epoxy to help bridge the larger hole and provide additional strength.
 
Rubber "T" nuts are a quick fix; especially if you can't get to back side. I have used about 3 times & have been there for several years. If you can get to back side, switch to snap with a machine screw fitting and use SS washer and nut to secure.

I am inclined to use Marinetex for the reason mentioned above. But am now curious what a "rubber T nut" is. Can someone please describe.

Finally came up with correct name for the rubber "T" nut in my previous post. They are Well-Nuts.
The WELL-NUT is a flanged neoprene bushing with a brass machine nut molded into one end.
When seated in the work piece, a conventional machine screw is threaded through the head of the Well-Nut into the brass nut and tightened. This causes the insert to expand, making a secure fastening.

if there is coring in the area you need to seal it well. If just fg panel it doesent matter much.
 
They sell snaps with an oversized screw, just for this purpose. Remove the old, put a dab of sealant into the hole, and install new snap.

I would check out some of the web sites that sell that type of hardware. I believe I saw some on the sailrite web site.
 
Bob, where to you get Well-Nuts? They sound interesting and while i don't have an immediate use, It could be handy to have a selection in the tool box.

Padraig, can't recall where I got my current supply. I would think a "GOOD" hdwe store would carry i.e. Ace ? I see them on page 677 of Boatfix catalog but something doesn't add up. Boatfix prices are always the lowest but the ones shown are $7+ to $11+ per. This is the list price; I didn't check discounted price but they shouldn't be more than $1.00 each.
