Hello all, I have a 1987 2757 Montego. I've owned the boat for about 12 years. We love the boat. I've always had issues with the 3.7 liter engines, seems like one thing after the other. I'm at the point of selling it or repowering it with 5.7 liter engines and new outdrives. We love the layout of the boat lots of room and will continue to be boaters. Has anyone had any experience with repowering this boat? Trying to decide whether to keep it or move on to another boat.
Thanks
Terry

there's a whole tread on here about the repower of a 28' Carver check it out. also do you plan on keeping this boat for the next 10 yrs.?

tlclausey, I have the same boat and have thought about repowering as well. One thing that may be an issue (which I haven't checked with Carver about yet) is that the stringer system on the boat is made differently for the 3.7L 4 cylinder engines than for the then available 4.3L V-6's. I'm not sure what would need to be done to make them fit, but some modification of the stringers is in order. Also keep in mind that with all of that weight at the stern (V-8s and Bravo drives), the boat may not plane out as well. My dock neighbor has a Regal 280 with 5.0s and his takes much longer to plane and he usually has to move people forward.

Terry, I just answered your post in the engines forum so will not repeat it here except to say, "take your time, think through it and ask lots of questions.

There are three of us, Me, RWS and BillyIII that have recently been through this and will be more than willing to give whatever insight and input we can along the way.

Thanks guys, just trying to get what ever input I get can get on this. Would like to sell the boat to down size, but just don't want to give it away. To nice of a boat.

A boat that old, with questionable engines, in this economy? Not a good combination.

If you love the boat and it suites your needs, do the repower and live happily ever after. :)

It's time to move up. Take a look at the Motego 3257. Even more room and twin engines.

Bob,

When you're ready to sell your trojan, let me know and I'll put the old starry night up for him to buy! But give me a few years!
