Would like opinions as to whether or not you think that it makes sense to repower a 1968 27' Uniflite Express? Other than a tired 454, the boat is in excellent condition. Thanks

Sure. Uniflite of that vintage is very highly regarded vessel! I think it would be worth the cost....

IMHO

That depends if you don't mind not getting the money you spend back out if you sell.

You're right, I'd never recoup if I sold. Then again, much cheaper than buying a comparable new or newer boat. It is a great boat and I'm very attached to it. Guess the answer is to repower.

Is it even possible to get you money out of a boat? I've always thought of "investments" like cars, boats and any other depreciable asset as a one way street...down. If you want to keep the boat, I'd do the repower. If you do the labor yourself, the cost should'nt be too bad.
JMHO

Any boat that you like and use is worth a repower. If the boat suits your needs for now and at least the near future it is considerably better than buying something unknown or really expensive like a new boat. Old boats have character, experience markings, and they can be a character but they deserve just as much love as the new pretty ones.

Repower it is! Thank you everyone for the excellent advice. She isn't sexy and flashy but she's reliable, loyal and solidly built and that trumps flash any day.

I own an older vessel thats been repowered. Its worth every penny! Most of the time, there built better then some of the newer vessels out there.

I considered that very question when I repowered mine. I love the "old boat" lines and have never regretted it.
