RIP Hobie

He inspired a lot of people to learn to sail

Had a Hobie Cat - just a blast. I don't admit it to the powerboaters here, but as I kid I spent more time sailing than powerboating. Small sailboats - at different times we had a SunFish, Laser and the Hobie Cat. Every boater should learn to sail - the ability to "read" the wind and water is priceless when it comes to any kind of boating.

I met both him and Buddy Ebsen who was an avid Hobie sailor at Lido Key in 1975 at the Spring Hobie Races.
I trailered a 16 from Canada and never finished better than halfway back in the pack. Some of those guys could find
wind in a dead calm.

Me too I learned to sail on a Hobie CAT. They were awesome that was back when I didn't care about getting wet!

Had a Hobie 14 then a 16, still remember the sail #10005

Rebuilt my 16 two summers ago- forgot how fun it was! Teaching my daughters to sail on it- great time. Sorry to hear about his passing.
