Hey everyone let me start by again thanking everyone in advance for your great responses. Usually I can even get a good laugh from some of the "low blows"
All in good fun!
Okay... Well I have had this volvo 5.7 now for about a month. The boat is a 2001 and it is raw water cooled - salt water I/O DP Sterndrive. Well the boat in its full life has been lift kept and flushed after each use within a few hours.
I had the boat surveyed and my surveyor basically did infared temp tests and compression test on the engine. Without pulling the survey back out he liked all the numbers and the thermostat was at about 165. It needles about 10 degrees below 175 when running cruise or idle.
Now the boat is about to go in for a 200 hour service and im wondering if I should have the manifolds and risers replaced. The question im going to go look at this evening is do the risers look like the originals. If they say volvo Im going to guess that they are.
Yesterday after I went out for a bit I reached in to the compartment to hold my hand on the top of the risers. I could hold my hand on them for about 10 seconds before my hand was getting pretty hot.
In my mind im thinking everything is about right
The Good:
1) Engine temp is good 165 or so
2) I can touch the risers and hold my hand on them for 10-15 seconds before getting too hot
3) Survey was good for temps at WOT
The Bad:
1) Could be original risers and manifolds in a 5 year old boat that is RWC even though its lift kept and flushed
Im guessing if there is a question it's probably a good time to replace?
Opinions are appreciated
Thanks again everyone,
Peter
PS... Im going to go see if I can figure out if they are the originals... I do know that the bolts look real good compared to some stories I hear about how rusted some are.
- I guess im hoping to see a aftermarket name on them
unless the owner replaced them with OEM ones.
