RPM/Display issues

I apologize for the long winded question. I have a 2004 Cruisers Yachts 440 express with twin TAMD74 Volvo turbo diesels. When I first start up I cannot get over 1800 rpms on each motor (this has varied from 900 to 1800 max is 3640), push the throttles and nothing. I turn off the engines, restart and they run fine. Also, the digital displays for the engines for rpm, turbo pressure, etc... are not working. The port engine display is not working at all and the starboard engine display faded away then came back on. I am not sure if the displays can be affecting the engine response or vice versa. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

I have no info on your particular setup, but I can suggest that, if no one here can help, you post on the "Cruisers Yacht Owners Club Forum." They'll be more familiar with your boat and your engines. Hy

Dont know your boat but i would open and lube all electrical connectons

A good friend has either a TAMD72P? or a TAMD73P? /420HP in his downeaster. The Hynautic 2-station throttle controls have hydraulic hose running to a slave electronic throttle controller mounted next to, but not on, the engine. Somewhat similar to a TPS on a gas injected engine, it converts throttle lever movement into an electrical signal leading to that engine's early EVC system.

If by any chance yours has that same or similar type of device next to the engine ( mid port side on his) , you might check the connections there to make sure they are bright and tight and dry. [ On his throttle converter device , he found if it gets wet such as when the mechanics lightly hosed down his engine after servicing and lightly spraying the throttle device , when they went for intial seasonal startup the engine reved highly and would not respond to the control lever. They were able to starve/shut it down , but it would not reset to normal until a VODIA (VOlvo DIAnostic device) was hooked up to reset the software.]

So if cleaning /tightening connections does not eliminate your low rpm issue, you might have a Volvo tech hook up a VODIA to check the EVC system.

As Bruce suggests perhaps the digital display connections are not clean & secure- worth checking there at least.

Is your display the one in the center of the bottom line?":

Littlebookworm - I have tried the Cruisers Yachts owners forum but no responses. Sandy, thank you for the info I will check my connections as well as look for the device on the engines. My displays are the center one on the bottom.
