Just a reminder (and will answer Joe's question on the video).

This year's RRR is still on schedule to meet at Killbear Marina outside of Parry Sound on Sat. July 28th followed by a trip up the scenic inside route to the Bustard Islands and then over to Kilarney Mountain Lodge via Collins Inlet (dependent upon water depth for the 4260's).

We will be monitoring Channel 7.

For some reason, I was thinking June 28th, so I see I was only a month off.. :)
Wish we could be there.. but looking forward to the great pics and naturally the 2007 video..

Joe, Greg has kept an appreciated eye out for us more than a few times ... we're hoping for a turtle free cruise this year - nothing he could have done about that last year ... stupid is as stupid does (meaning me) ... I have lots of batteries, so should be lots of pics ... we're really looking forward to the RRR this year ...

When are you setting sail. We are heading out thursday afternoon and hoping for good weather. I think I will push as far toward the bay as I can on Thursday.
 
Scott, the group is leaving in scattered formation.

Some are leaving the weekend before, some are leaving the Wednesday / Thursday / Friday before.

If you leave Thursday afternoon from Keswick, depending upon time of day you will get thru Lock 42 for sure. It is another couple of hours to Lock 43 (Swift Rapids). That will get you into GB by Friday around noonish which leaves you lots of time to find a spot for Friday night and then a nice run up on Saturday to Killbear.

Keep in mind the locks this year are closing at 7 PM.

Personally if I can get up there in time, I would like to get going Wednesday as we have friends we'd like to visit for a day or so around the Honey Harbour area before heading up.
 
Fuel -

It will be interesting to see what happens with the 'street' fuel going below $1.00 / litre and predicted to maybe go down to low $0.90's over the next two weeks (good for us).

Pump price at Hot Knots for silver grade on the weekend was $1.30 (they don't sell regular).

At Blue Beacon (just south of the narrows) for regular was $1.21 and the current price at Port Severn Boat Haven is $1.19.

Hopefully we will all catch a break for once and hit the fuel pricing at the right time during the RRR and beyond.

I just received a copy of Boats & Places Magazine. There is an artical in the Magazine that says the Sportsman's inn is closed. It says that Lambac, the creditor is attempting to reopen the docks and pumps for the summer but cannot commit to do so at this time. The magazine says this may reduce the availability of fuel in the area.
 
Scott, we just talked to someone who was in Killarney and they are definitely working on the docks. There is major pressure from the town to get them going as the Sportsman Inn generated a great percentage of the town's tourism ($$$) for all the supporting businesses.

In any case, you have a chance to fuel in Killbear. Plus if you feel the need you can split off and fuel at Bayfield Inlet on the way up and then catch back up. Byng Inlet also has fuel as I recall.

As we are taking most the docks at the Mountain Lodge in Killarney there is also fuel there.

Just north by about an hour or so, if you go up into the North Channel there is also fuel at Little Current.

Coming back south same thing unless you come down the west side and fuel is only then available at Tobermory.

With your new boat, I don't think you should have to worry too much about it. Oh forgot, it's a Searay :)
 
Not to bust on Misty's new boat, but the range on the 280 is one of the biggest downsides to that boat. If memory serves me it is only around 100 miles, so make sure to fuel up when you can! Otherwise Greg will have to tow you back and that just would not be good for your reputation or SeaRays for that matter![:-ashamed]
 
Did some quick checking Scott.

I went to boattest.com for some test results and unfortunately for some reason, they have archived all the Searay models so I couldn't get access.

I looked at a Regal 2860 which holds 378 litres with twin 4.3's and it's range at 3500 RPM was estimated at 164 miles.

If what Jeff said is true ie: 100 miles (?? I can't believe any cruiser would have that type of mileage with combination on and off plane running) then maybe you will have to fuel part way up.

I did a quick check on Google Maps and this is not scientific nor accurate and is measured as the crow flys...plus rounded up

Killbear to Bustards - 52 Miles
Bustards to Killarney - 35 miles
Approx expected miles Killbear to Killarney = 90 ish miles. 1/2 on and 1/2 off plane - especially from the Bustards as we will take Collins Inlet which is like going up the Severn.

Killarney to Little Current - 20 miles
Killarney to Tobermory - 50 miles
Tobermory to Honey Harbour - 100 Miles (I made it with my 2665 running for 3.5 hours at 30 MPH in fairly bumpy conditions (mind you I was getting next to empty)

If you have not already done so, I would go on the SeaRay forum and ask other owners what their experience has been - the key being not what they get for miles when running at 3500 but a combination of on and off.....
 
The boat has the smart craft guages so I can monitor fuel consumption. On plane at around 3300 RPMs I get around 8.3 GPH per Engine. I think the Sea Ray is a little slower than the Regals at 3300 RPMs I am running about 27MPH.
The fuel tank is 100 U.S. gal. That would give me a range of 162 Miles. So lets say the Range would be 150 miles since I would not be able to drain the tank completely empty.

For sure that is a lot better fuel economy than the Regal 256 with twin 3.0 liters I had last season on the RRR. When we did the return trip from Killbear, where I refueled, to Severn lock. When I reached the lock I was empty and running on fumes. I think the fuel tank on the 256 held 65gal. I have never in ten years of boating run that low on gas.

The Sea Ray is a bigger boat with bigger engines with better fuel economy. Hmmm.
 
On another subject what Chart do you recommend for the trip. I already have 2202, 2203 and 2204.
 
The I guess you are good to go as if you can get 150 miles out of her or even 140 for safety's sake running at 3,300 RRPM's then one would have to assume that if we spend a lot of time just putzing thru parts of the small craft route (eg: Hang Dog Channel or Collins Inlet), then your range would be extended and you should have most likely 1/2 tank left when you get to Killarney.

Or maybe not..... :)
 
It's getting exciting now only a week to go. Can't wait. How many boats are going this year?
 
To tell you the truth, I'm not sure at this point - about 16 I think.
