I can't tell if I have a faulty gauge or if my engine is actually running too cool. The temp gauge rarely moves and in my last 4 trips to the lake I've only seen the guage get to 160 one time and after that it quickly plumeted back down to the 120 degree point on the gauge (not instantly but over a few minutes). I am going to replace the thermostat, but I really don't suspect it to be stuck open because even after hours on the lake both idling and cruising the temp gauge never goes over 120 or so. Is there a way to test the temp gauge or a way to see if the motor is getting to operating temps? Anything else I should look into replacing?
