This morning we were woke-up to the sounds of fire engines.....and the sky covered in thick black smoke. After looking around ....I took a ride in the car. They had Montauk Hwy. closed by Kydds Marina...in Lindenhurst.

Unfortunately Kydds new boat showroom was completely destroyed by fire. Looks like the only boats they were able to save were the smaller ones on trailers around the property. It's a mess.

It was heart breaking to see all the destruction.
 
Wow, first they lose their Cruisers franchise and now this, I hope Dennis has good insurance
 
This is very sad, but I am sure Dennis, Mike, Jimmy and all will recover. They are a great bunch that always do the right thing. I've bought two new ones from them so far and would return in a heartbeat. Great people.
 
Went over there today, just bought a Rinker from Kehl's next door, went to see what it looked like. What a mess, they were towing the salvageble boats out, at 2PM Montauk Hwy. was still closed so they could move about. Rumor has it that a disgruntled employee, who was fired on Saturday, went back Sunday morning to get revenge. Pulled up to Kehl's, cops and arson investigators all over, looking at the building you could tell there seemed to be foul play, one corner completely gone, and everything around it melted completely, while the rest looked like fire damage. Steel and glass building completely destroyed.Boats inside completely destroyed. Outside on the lot anything close to the building melted and pretty much destroyed from smoke and heat. Sad, but a sign of the times today.
 
I went by around 3:30 or so and Montauk Hwy was still closed. I was coming back from doing a couple of things on my boat at the Anchorage, and noticed several trailerable boats there that weren't there a couple weeks ago and a couple people checking them out. I was thinking later that maybe they were boats that were brought over from Kydds. Didn't notice any damage on them.

Went by there this morning......the fire left the building unsafe.....so they demolished it last night......... it's completely gone. I also read they made an arrest. Thats good news.

Hope that Kydds comes back even stronger..........
 
Jeff......your friends with Dennis...right ? He must be pissed off.

They had a picture of the arsonist on ch 12 news this morning.....didn't catch his name.....but he is a local guy from Lindenhurst. They said there was over $2 Mil. in damage.

The picture of the man, Alferdo Bartos arrested looks very familiar. Can’t quite place him, but I know I have seen him around, his beard is very distinct, the European captain's beard with no mustache look.

Sad to think someone would go that nuts. I hope we do find out what made is brain circuit trip.

Its hard to see any merchants business get torched, I guess this hits home more because we are boaters and some know the owners. I am real glad no one got hurt.

When they say someone has gone postal, usually means gone nuts which I guess came from the many incidences of postal workers shooting up their office.

What would they call a Boat Yard / Sales Company worker gone nuts?

Arrest Made in Long Island Marina Fire

LINDENHURST, NY (AP) -- A 69-year-old man is under arrest in connection with a suspicious fire that destroyed a marina in Lindenhust, Long Island.

SuffolK County Police say they arrested Alfredo Bartos yesterday and charged him with arson.

Early yesterday morning, police and the Lindenhurst Fire Department were called to the Kydd's Marine Center at 555 West Montauk Highway. They discovered the one-story marina engulfed in flames. The fire department had the fire under control and extinguished in 90 minutes. But little more than a brick wall and metal supports remain of the marina.

Kydd's Marine Center owner Dennis Smiegiel says he thinks the marina lost about 15 boats.

The fire is estimated by authorities to have cost $2 million in damage.
