I know not boating related but it's relevant to LONG ISLAND.

Father In Law went in for quadruple by pass...

5 hr operation. Came thru like a champ. GREAT Hospital. North Shore , LIJ ... not even close to same level or care....

Just wanted to post it out there... we are all getting older... and our plumbing well u know gets gummed up....So its a highly recommended repair shop : )

Thanks for the information and glad to hear your Father-In-Law is ok.

For the last few years my doctor has been preaching all kinds of health tips for me, I am not the greatest at following.

I did always think the LIJ was tops if I needed a repair. Nice to know Saint Francis is also great.

Approaching 50 in May, I now need to really take better charge of my health. After my most recent checkup, I need to make a few adjustments. Ok lots of adjustments…..

Anyone on Altace and/ or Lipitor. Doc says to me “do it or…..”

To keep this boating related… Not taking care of yourself will cause you not to boat. And not get that next boat of your dreams.
 
Rob, excellent news.

Just stay away from the "public" hospitals! I used to do Med Mal work, some of those places are committing manslaughter!
 
Rob ..... great news...glad to hear that.

St Francis is one of the best....... I have an elderly aunt who lives in Queens....that I take care of.....she spent 2 weeks there last year. She just celebrated her 96th birthday last week.
 
Just so we know, and to keep it boating related. What is the address and what is local marina to use for it? Hows that? Really, I have no idea where this Hospital is. Glad everyones loved ones are doing fine!
 
Glad to hear the good news news.... Saint Francis is for sure the best place on LI to go if you have heart problems. My FI had the same surgery 19 years ago at Saint Francis

Rob, Good news!

Brad, A year and a half ago I finally gave in and went on Vytorin and then Lescol xl which is a statin like Lipitor (Vytorin made me sleepy). It brought my cholesterol down significantly and with none of the possible side effects. After 6 months I got to thinking that I didn't want to keep taking this pill the rest of my life, so I got serious about what the doctor had been telling me for years. Joined a gym, changed my diet and lost 30 pounds. My cholesterol is so good that I came off the meds in August with the doc's blessing. It really can be done.

And to stay on the boating topic, I needed to do this in order to keep paying for the boat.
 
Mark, that is fantastic, it gives me incentive. I also don’t want to be on meds that long, but need to for a few months. The Altace is for the blood pressure, Lipitor for the Cholesterol. After my sudden work layoff, my BP soared; it was always a bit high before, but not enough for meds. Looks like I should be back working in a couple of weeks. That does not mean the BP will lower at first with the stress of a new job.

We all need to keep healthy for the 2007 boating season.

Thanks guys for the good words on the job. I did negotiate for my annual group vacation 7/12-7/23. Had to slip that in once I felt it was a done deal. They were very good about it.

This is a great forum,

Get boating information, get medical advice. Now need advice on getting a raise in less than 6 months. Of course to support Boating!!
 
St Francis is the cardio place. LIJ N. Shore is a ghastly nightmare for care although you may get lucky there depending on rotation. It's a giant mill.
